Patients to Get Major Relief in Registration via ABHA App in OPD Registration Area

Raipur, March 27, 2025/ Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, continuous efforts are being made to connect citizens’ facilities with digital and smart services. In this sequence, the public area (including waiting hall) of the OPD registration counter at Late Shri Lakhi Ram Agrawal Memorial Government Medical College, Raigarh, has been converted into a free Wi-Fi zone. This facility has been started for the first time in any government medical college in the state. This innovative initiative has been implemented under the continuous guidance of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal and Finance Minister Shri O. P. Choudhary, and under the direction of Dean Dr. Vineet Jain and Hospital Superintendent Dr. M. K. Minj.

A Solid Step Towards Promoting Digital Health

The purpose of the free Wi-Fi facility is to address the problems faced by patients and their relatives in digital registration through the ABHA app when visiting the OPD. In this area, which falls under the M.R.D. department, patients will now be able to obtain registration tokens directly through the ABHA app from their mobile phones, making the process of getting slips simpler, faster, and more transparent.

Dr. M. K. Minj said that the hospital management had received information that many patients were facing difficulties in registering through the ABHA app due to mobile network problems. In particular, this problem persists as the medical college is located in a hilly area. Keeping these technical hurdles in mind, it was decided to provide free Wi-Fi facility in the OPD registration area. With this facility, patients and their relatives can now easily register through the ABHA app without any network barriers, which will not only increase convenience but also save time.

Notably, as per the instructions issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on June 4, 2024, all medical colleges have to ensure that the registration of patients coming for OPD/IPD/Emergency services is done through ABHA ID only. In compliance with this guideline, clear instructions have also been issued by the Commissioner, Medical Education, Chhattisgarh, that to ensure recognition of the medical college, all patients must be registered through the ABHA app only.

Keeping these guidelines and the convenience of patients in mind, the free Wi-Fi facility has been formally launched in the OPD area of Raigarh Medical College today. This initiative places Raigarh Medical College at the forefront of technologically inclusive medical institutions in Chhattisgarh, and is certainly a commendable and exemplary step towards the Digital Health Mission.
