An unexpected explosion at SECL’s Chirmiri open-cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh has resulted in injuries to three workers, including two women. The incident occurred Monday afternoon in the Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district as a team prepared for a routine blasting operation. The blast happened suddenly, catching workers off guard.
According to SECL, a group of miners was laying explosives on the coal bed when the detonation occurred unexpectedly. The force of the blast caused rock fragments and debris to fly, hitting personnel and equipment in the vicinity. The injured were immediately attended to and transported to the SECL hospital in Kurasia, Chirmiri.
All three workers sustained minor injuries and are currently in stable condition at the hospital. Medical professionals anticipate their recovery and subsequent discharge soon. Investigations are actively underway to determine the root cause of the premature explosion.
