Three individuals, including two women, suffered injuries following an explosion at the Chirmiri open cast coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur (MCB) district on Monday. The incident took place while a SECL (South Eastern Coalfields Limited) team was preparing for a routine blasting operation. The blast occurred between 2 pm and 3 pm, reportedly as workers were laying explosives on the coal bed. The sudden detonation caused debris to fly, hitting several workers and damaging some vehicles within the mine. The injured were promptly attended to and transported to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia, Chirmiri. Medical updates confirm that the three injured workers have sustained minor injuries and are in a stable condition, with no immediate danger to their lives. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, with a technical fault being the primary suspected cause. However, the probe will also consider potential contributing factors such as equipment failure, procedural deviations, or human error. The mine has been temporarily shut down, and safety officials are working to secure the area and reassess all safety protocols to prevent recurrence.
