Kanker district officials have taken strict action against multiple panchayat secretaries due to slow progress in the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Three secretaries have been suspended, two will have their salaries withheld, and six others have been issued notices. The District Panchayat CEO reviewed the progress of the housing scheme, emphasizing the need for timely completion. The CEO directed officials to facilitate the availability of construction materials for beneficiaries and to encourage them to complete construction within the given timeframe. The officials were also instructed to promote participation in masonry training programs for local youth. The disciplinary actions were taken after a review revealed poor progress in certain villages. The PM Awas Yojana has approved a total of 29,207 houses in the district from 2016-24, with 26,643 houses completed. For the year 2024-25, the district has a target of 37,932 houses, with 30,103 already approved. Beneficiaries receive funds through DBT in three installments totaling Rs 1.20 lakh.
