Raipur. The Central Government has announced the Padma Awards on the eve of Republic Day. This time, well-known artist Pandi Ram Mandavi of Gond Muria tribe of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh has also been included in the list of Padmashree awards. Pandi Ram Mandavi will be awarded Padma Shri for his remarkable contribution in the field of traditional musical instrument making and wooden craftsmanship.

Let us tell you that 67 year old Pandi Ram Mandavi’s special identity is in the manufacturing of bamboo Bastar flute, which is called ‘Sulur’. Additionally, he has taken his art to a global level through relief paintings, sculptures and other artefacts on wooden panels. Pandi Ram Mandavi learned this art from his ancestors at the age of just 12 and with his dedication and skill, he took the art and culture of Chhattisgarh to new heights. Not only this, as a cultural ambassador he has displayed his art in more than 8 countries. Also, by training more than 1,000 artisans through its workshop, it has worked to pass on this tradition to new generations.
President will honor Draupadi Murmu
It is noteworthy that after the announcement of names, Padma Award winners are given by the President of India Draupadi Murmu in the honor ceremonies organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the month of March or April. Padma awards are given in three categories, which include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
