On May Day, working people took out a rally, resolved to protect the Constitution, democracy, unity and secularism.

Raipur. On the occasion of International Labor Day, on May 1, labor organizations of the capital took out a rally under the leadership of the Joint Trade Union Council. The rally started from Motibagh, passed through Shastri Bazaar, Chhotapara and transformed into a public meeting at Rajiv Gandhi Tiraha. Raipur Division Insurance Employees Union, BSNL Employees Union, Center of Indian Trade Union, Medical and Sales Representatives Union, Postal Employees Union, Central Zone Insurance Employees Association, Chhattisgarh Third Class Police participated in the rally. Hundreds of workers affiliated with various constituent organizations including employee unions participated. A large number of women workers also participated in the rally. The workers pledged to protect the Constitution, democracy, unity and secularism.

Addressing the gathering, General Secretary of Central Zone Insurance Employees Association, Dharmaraj Mohapatra said that this year’s May Day has brought new challenges. This May Day is being celebrated at a time when the country is engaged in the process of 18th Lok Sabha elections.

He said that the experience of the last several years shows that countries where the struggles of workers and people are led by politically conscious leadership with an alternative pro-people policy perspective, result in progressive and pro-people Governments have come to power. The general meeting was addressed by MK Nandi, Surendra Sharma, Chandrashekhar Tiwari, SC Bhattacharya and VS Baghel.
