A significant change is coming to the teacher training landscape in Chhattisgarh. Students aspiring to pursue teacher training through four-year integrated courses like BA-BEd and BSc-BEd will no longer need to sit for entrance exams. They can now secure admission directly after completing their 12th-grade education.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has sent a proposal to the government to implement this new system. The counseling process is anticipated to begin in August, which will allow students to save one year of their academic journey. This shift moves away from the previous requirement of a two-year B.Ed course. The Ministry of Education has mandated that this course be phased out by 2024-25. The focus is on the four-year integrated courses, which are part of the New Education Policy (NEP).
Under this new arrangement, around 6700 seats will be available in 300 colleges across the state. Admission will be based on a merit list generated from 12th-grade marks. Colleges will be allocated through a counseling procedure.
