Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district celebrated a significant victory with the surrender of 21 Maoist cadres, including 13 women, on Sunday. The cadres relinquished their arms as part of the ‘Poona Margem: Rehabilitation through Reintegration’ scheme, a key program by the Bastar Range police. A total of 18 weapons were handed over, demonstrating the impact of the initiative. The surrendered weaponry includes formidable arms like three AK-47 rifles, two INSAS rifles, and four SLR rifles. Additionally, six .303 rifles, two single-shot rifles, and a Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) were recovered. Among those who surrendered was Division Committee Secretary Mukesh, alongside other key figures and members from various organizational levels within the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The group belonged to the Kuemari/Kiskodo Area Committee associated with the Keshkal Division. This event follows a series of successful mass surrenders in the wider Bastar region, bolstering police efforts to restore peace and security.
