Mahasamund. Mahasamund Police has taken major action against smuggling of illegal drug Ganja. The joint team of Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and Singhoda police station has arrested an inter-state smuggler with 149.4 kg of illegal ganja. The value of ganja caught in smuggling is said to be Rs 22 lakh 41 thousand. Apart from this, the police has also seized an Innova vehicle, which is worth Rs 10 lakh. Overall, the police have recovered material worth Rs 32 lakh 41 thousand.
Action taken on information received from informer
On January 10, 2025, the police received information from the informer that two people in a silver colored Innova car (No. UP 32 DQ 1033) were coming from Orissa towards Chhattisgarh carrying ganja. After the information, the police set up a blockade on National Highway 53 near village Rehtikhol. After some time, a car as described by the informer was seen arriving. The police stopped the car, but the driver and his companion left the vehicle and started running away. The police ran and caught one accused, while the other one absconded. The arrested accused told that he was going to smuggle ganja from Orissa to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Ganja revealed in investigation
During the search of the car, the police found ganja filled in 6 plastic sacks under the seats of the vehicle. A total of 149.4 kg of ganja was recovered, the value of which is said to be Rs 22 lakh 41 thousand. Along with this, the police also seized the Innova car used in smuggling. Accused Ravi Gupta (33 years) was arrested. He is a resident of Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh.
Case registered against the accused
A case has been registered against the arrested accused in Singhoda police station under Section 20(b) of the NDPS Act and sent on judicial remand. The police is also busy searching for the absconding accused.
