Lalluram Super Exclusive: Raipur. Pratik Chauhan. A very rare species of Golden Mahseer Fish is found in the Sikaser Dam located in the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh. Wildlife experts say that this fish is mainly found in the rivers flowing in the lower parts of the Himalayas in India, the specialty of this fish is that it lays eggs only in places with strong rain flow. So far, this rare Golden Mahseer Fish has been found only in the Sikaser Dam in the whole of Chhattisgarh. However, 3-4 species of Mahseer Fish are found in Chhattisgarh.

A source in the forest department told Lalluram.com on the condition of anonymity that an organization called Nova Nature had organized a camp for 5-6 days recently after getting information about this fish being found here and a letter has also been written by the said organization to the forest department for the conservation of this fish. The source said that the villagers are hunting this fish considering it to be tasty, the worrying thing is that when it is the breeding time of this fish and it goes to lay eggs on the opposite side of the water in strong current, only then the fishermen hunt it.

The weight is 17 to 20 kg

Wildlife experts say that this fish weighs 17 to 20 kg, but due to continuous hunting, its weight has decreased because the fish are hunted before they grow properly.

There are 47 species present all over the world

The said fish is mentioned in a book published in 1848. This book was written by John D. MacDonald. It also mentions that the said fish is found in Chhattisgarh. According to the said book, there are 47 fishes of this species in the whole world. Out of these, 15 species are found in India, out of which Golden Mahseer Fish is one of the rare species and this has also been confirmed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
