A recent incident in the Naxal-affected region of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, highlights the internal conflicts and brutal realities within the Maoist movement. An IED, planted by Maoists themselves, detonated in the Bandepara jungle of the Madder police station area, resulting in severe injuries to a female Maoist. Following the explosion, her comrades abandoned her, fleeing the scene with her weapon, leaving her wounded in the jungle. Villagers promptly notified the police, who responded swiftly. The Madder police team, assisted by local residents, rescued the injured Maoist from the jungle and provided initial medical assistance. She was then transported to the Bijapur District Hospital for treatment. Police investigations revealed the injured Maoist as Gujja Sodhi, an active member of the Madder Area Committee for approximately six to seven years. She was associated with ACM Kanna Buchchana and was in possession of a 12-bore firearm. The incident has been condemned by security forces as evidence of the Maoists’ callous disregard for their own members and organizational failures. A search operation is currently ongoing across the region.
