In a significant development, the High Court has granted regular bail to four individuals, including the alleged mastermind Harmeet Khanuja, involved in the Bhartamala compensation scam. The accused were held in Raipur jail for three months after being arrested by the ACB. The court considered the bail petitions filed by the accused after their arrests in April. The granted bail to Harmeet Khanuja, Uma Devi Tiwari, Kedar Tiwari, and Vijay Jain. The EOW (Economic Offenses Wing) is investigating the scam, which involves fraudulent land acquisition during the Bhartamala project, a central government initiative for a 463-kilometer highway from Raipur to Visakhapatnam. The investigation revealed that a syndicate, including officials, was involved in the scam.
