Governor Shri Ramen Deka Becomes ‘Nikshay Mitra’ of TB Patients in All 33 Districts of Chhattisgarh

First Governor of the Country to Achieve This Unique Feat

Raipur, Under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, the Governor of Chhattisgarh, Shri Ramen Deka, has set an example by adopting a total of 330 TB patients undergoing treatment in all 33 districts of the state, 10 patients from each district, by becoming a ‘Nikshay Mitra’. The Governor is providing a grant of Rs 500 per month to each patient to provide nutritious food during the treatment period, which is being provided to the Chief Medical and Health Officers of the concerned districts.

Shri Deka assumed office as the 10th Governor of Chhattisgarh on July 31, 2024. After assuming office, during his visits to the districts, he initiated steps to accelerate the Prime Minister’s ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’. During this time, he held review meetings with departmental officials and took information about the progress of the campaign and communicated directly with the patients and made them aware of the importance of regular medicine and nutrition.

In this sequence, he first adopted TB patients of Rajnandgaon, Bastar, Dhamtari and Gariaband districts. Thereafter, before the completion of one year of his tenure, he adopted patients in all the remaining districts and completed this process up to the last 33rd district Kondagaon and he became the first governor of the country to do so.

The Governor, Shri Deka, has also appealed to industrialists, social organizations, Rice Mill Association and the common citizens to come forward and become ‘Nikshay Mitra’ and become a part of this mass movement by adopting TB patients. He said that the resolution to make Chhattisgarh and the whole of India TB free can be realized only through collective efforts.
