In a story from Gariaband district, Chhattisgarh, Nakul has adopted a distinctive lifestyle. Residing in the Mainpur block, he left his profession as a bus driver to pursue horseback riding. The shift is not just a personal preference; Nakul and his family now depend on horses for all their travels. He has also established himself by providing horseback riding services locally.

His reasons for the change focused on road safety, leading him to choose a path that combines farming and riding.

Nakul BC, a 48-year-old resident of Banuwapara in Mainpur block, shifted from being a bus driver to a life centered around horses. For the past 10 years, Nakul and his family have exclusively used horses for transportation. He owns two horses. His professional journey started at 20 as a bus conductor and then transitioned to driving.

    Why the Career Change?

Banuwapara, Nakul’s village, had inadequate road connectivity to the district headquarters. His income was insufficient to support his two children and wife. The risk on the roads was a constant worry. A decade ago, he sought change and purchased a horse using income from corn farming. After realizing that requesting for improved roads didn’t work, he adopted horse travel. Post his farming activities, he now earns extra income through horseback riding services.

    Nakul’s Explanation

Nakul explained that the job caused continuous stress, impacting him and his family. He often found himself away from his family. The decision to switch to farming and riding allowed him to stay with his family and increase his earnings. He utilizes his time after farming for horseback riding services.
