    Raipur. The Model Code of Conduct will be implemented in Chhattisgarh today with the press conference of the State Election Commission. The dates of urban body and three-tier panchayat elections will be announced in the press conference of the Election Commission from 3 pm onwards. This time the urban body elections will be conducted through electronic voting machine (EVM), while the panchayat elections will be conducted through ballot paper. At the same time, the State Election Commission will also keep a close eye on the election expenses of all the candidates.

    In Chhattisgarh, the expenditure limit of mayors and chairpersons has been fixed for municipal elections. In municipal corporations with population of 5 lakh or more, mayor candidates will be able to spend up to Rs 25 lakh, for municipal corporations with population 3-5 lakh this limit will be Rs 20 lakh and for corporations with population less than 3 lakh, this limit will be Rs 15 lakh.

    At the same time, municipal chairpersons with a population of more than 50 thousand will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 10 lakh and municipal chairpersons with a population of less than 50 thousand will be able to spend a maximum of Rs 8 lakh. Apart from this, the expenditure limit for Nagar Panchayat President is Rs 6 lakh.

    The amount of election expenses fixed for councilors

    In municipal corporations where the population is 3 lakh or more, councilors will be able to spend up to Rs 8 lakh on elections. Whereas in municipal corporations with population less than 3 lakh, the expenditure limit will be Rs 5 lakh. Whereas the limit of expenditure of councilors in Municipality has been fixed at Rs 2 lakh and in Panchayats it has been fixed at Rs 75 thousand.

    Let us tell you that currently elections will be held for 10 Municipal Corporations out of 14 Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils of 45 out of 54 Municipal Corporations and 114 Nagar Panchayat Presidents out of 124 Municipal Corporations.

    Know what things need to be kept in mind in the code of conduct:

    The state government has issued guidelines regarding what things need to be kept in mind after the Model Code of Conduct is implemented in the state.

    If it is necessary to take an immediate decision on a subject related to the code of conduct, the decision should be taken in consultation with the State Election Commission. Employees and officers will not be granted leave without the permission of the Collector. Appointment and posting will also be restricted. Government ministers will not be able to make any announcement nor participate in the Bhoomi Pujan or inauguration program. Guidelines also regarding use of loudspeakers, arrangement of vehicles, reservation of rooms in rest houses and buildings, arrangement of employees for elections, redressal of complaints, ban on use of vehicles of local bodies, government undertakings, cooperative institutions etc. .
