A case of triple talaq has been reported in Bilaspur, highlighting the continued prevalence of the practice despite legal prohibitions. The incident took place in the Tarbahar police station area, where a woman was allegedly harassed for dowry by her husband. After repeated demands and mental and physical abuse, the husband uttered ‘talaq’ three times, resulting in the termination of the marriage. The woman’s marriage to Nasir Ali took place in December 2022. Her family complied with all dowry requests at the time of the wedding. However, the harassment started soon after, centered around demands for a motorcycle and other issues. Despite efforts to resolve the issues through family and community involvement, the abuse persisted. The woman subsequently filed a complaint with the police, leading to a case being registered against her husband, his mother-in-law, and others under relevant laws, including the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. The police are currently investigating the matter.
