In a shocking display of healthcare failure, a young man from Odisha lost his life right inside a civil hospital in Borai village, Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh. Despite being rushed to the facility after a road accident, no doctors or staff were present to provide emergency care. The incident, which unfolded late Sunday night, has ignited fury among villagers who staged an overnight protest with the body at the hospital gates.

The tragedy struck on the Borai-Ghutkel road when locals discovered the injured biker unconscious. Police from Borai station and nearby residents acted swiftly, transporting him to the civil hospital expecting prompt treatment. Instead, they found the emergency services completely deserted. With no medical attention available, the man, identified as Agnu Ram Vishwakarma from Khilouli, Odisha, succumbed to his injuries on the hospital premises.

Outraged villagers refused to let the matter rest. Led by former district panchayat member Manoj Sakshi, they blocked the main entrance, raising slogans against the hospital administration and accusing authorities of gross negligence. ‘If emergency services exist only on paper, where do we turn in life-threatening situations?’ Sakshi demanded, highlighting repeated complaints ignored by officials.

This remote forested region has long suffered from inadequate medical infrastructure. Protests and memorandums have yielded no change, and locals warn of escalating actions until 24-hour doctor availability is ensured and accountability is enforced. The death has exposed deep cracks in the health system, prompting calls for a thorough investigation and strict action against absentee staff.

As dawn broke, the agitation continued, symbolizing a broader cry for reliable healthcare in underserved areas. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the human cost when public services falter.
