A violent conflict erupted in Jhabdi village, within the Kasdol police station area, on Sunday night, resulting in the fatal stabbing of a young man. The incident unfolded amidst a clash between two opposing groups. Adding to the severity of the situation, police officers who arrived to make arrests were subjected to stone-pelting by agitated villagers.

The roots of the violence lay in a long-standing dispute between residents of Jhabdi and Madkada villages. The individuals involved included Nanu, also known as Trilokchand Kaushik, from Jhabdi, and Lucky Kewat and Ajay Kewat from Madkada, who were entangled in a history of conflict. Despite official complaints filed with the police, the dispute persisted, leading to the escalation.

The deadly attack took place on Sunday evening when the victim, Nanu, and his companion, Hemchandra, were ambushed near Madkada village. The assailants used a sharp weapon, resulting in Nanu’s immediate death, while Hemchandra sustained severe injuries and was transferred to Raipur for medical care.

In the aftermath of the murder, when the police attempted to apprehend the suspects in Madkada village, they faced a hostile reaction. The local populace surrounded the police vehicle and began to throw stones. This forced the intervention of senior officers, including ASP Abhishek Singh, the SDM, and Kasdol SDOP, who arrived with reinforcements. Two official vehicles were damaged as a result of the stone-pelting. After considerable efforts, police managed to arrest Ajay Kewat and Lucky Kewat and bring them to the Kasdol police station. Enhanced security measures have been enforced within the village.
