Authorities in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, have apprehended a Gram Panchayat Secretary and a Sarpanch on charges of embezzlement, involving a sum of ₹18.42 lakh. The accused allegedly misappropriated funds from the government treasury, sparking a police investigation following a formal complaint. The case unfolded in the Arrahanpur police station area, implicating Ramesh Korram, the then Sarpanch, and Anoj Kumar Mandavi, the Secretary of Nilavaya Gram Panchayat. They are accused of financial irregularities concerning basic and construction projects within the Nilavaya Gram Panchayat during 2022-2025, funded through the DMF account. An investigative committee, established by the Chief Executive Officer of the Zila Panchayat Dantewada, produced a report that prompted the Arrahanpur police to file a case under the BNS 2023. The arrests took place on June 23rd and 24th under the direction of senior police officers. The accused were subsequently presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody. The arrested individuals are Anoj Kumar Mandavi, the former Gram Panchayat Secretary, and Ramesh Korram, the former Sarpanch of Nilavaya.
