Ram Pyare’s life was burdened by debt due to cancer treatment, but he received free treatment in the Dirghayayu ward.

Deendayal no longer has to travel miles for cancer treatment; he is receiving free treatment.

    Raipur, January 9, 2025/
The facilities of Chhattisgarh’s government hospitals are continuously expanding due to the efforts of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai. Under the Chief Minister’s instructions and the efforts of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jayswal, the trust of the state’s patients in government hospitals has strengthened. Ram Pyare and Deendayal from Jashpur are sharing their stories about the expansion of healthcare facilities.

Ram Pyare received free treatment in the Dirghayayu ward.

“My entire savings were exhausted in getting cancer treatment; I even had to sell my house. In this situation, the Dirghayayu ward of the district hospital became a lifesaver for me, where I am receiving free treatment and medicines,” says 60-year-old Ram Pyare Ram, a resident of Rajapara. Ram Pyare works as a peon in a government model school. For many years, he had been suffering from stomach pain and burning sensation. Initially, when Ram Pyare had a checkup at a private hospital in Ambikapur, doctors diagnosed it as an ulcer and started treatment. After two years of treatment, when he didn’t get any relief, he got treatment at a private hospital in Raipur. Tests revealed that he had stomach cancer. He was then referred to another private hospital, where he underwent treatment for a year. This treatment exhausted all his family savings. The situation became such that he had to sell his house. He became burdened with debt. His children tried to arrange loans wherever possible to pay for his treatment.

Then he received information about free treatment at the district hospital. He started his treatment there. Now he does not have to repeatedly go to Raipur for treatment. Ram Pyare says that his treatment used to cost him between 90,000 and 100,000 rupees per month. Travel and other expenses were separate. Here, the treatment is free, and there is no need for travel expenses. For this, he thanked Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai and the government.

The Dirghayayu ward gave hope to Deendayal’s troubles.

Deendayal Yadav, a cancer patient from Kansabel, said that he had been facing several physical problems since September 2023. Initially, when he got checked, he was diagnosed with hydrocele and treated for it. But his physical ailments continued to worsen, and his stomach swelled. One day, while working at home, he fainted, and for 2-3 days, he remained unconscious and received treatment in Kunkuri. As the illness was not diagnosed there, he also underwent tests in Ambikapur, where doctors advised him to go to the Medical College in Raipur. There, tests revealed that he had kidney cancer.

Deendayal, who worked as a mason and shouldered the entire responsibility of his household, created a climate of fear in his family with his condition. However, the doctors explained that to avoid financial burden, he could get treated in his own district. When he came to Jashpur, his free treatment began in the Dirghayayu ward under the Ayushman Card scheme. Deendayal had reached a point where even getting up from bed or speaking was difficult. Now, he is gradually recovering and can now sit up on his own. For this, Deendayal and his wife thanked Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai.
