Raipur, September 08, 2025// Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai today visited the residence of the first woman MLA and social worker of Raipur, late Smt. Rajni Tai Upasane, located in the Police Line of Raipur, and paid his respects to her. He remembered the contributions of Rajni Tai Upasane and met the bereaved family members and consoled them. Former Rajya Sabha MP Shri Kailash Soni, Shri Santosh Sharma, Shri Jagdish Upasane and other family members were present on this occasion.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai said that the demise of Rajni Tai is an irreparable loss to the entire society. The courage and patience she displayed during the difficult times of the Emergency is inspiring. During her tenure, she gave top priority to the interests of the people and the development of Raipur. She received a unique identity due to her simplicity, honesty and deep connection with the society. She remained constantly active for the rights of women and the marginalized sections. Shri Sai prayed to God for the peace of the departed soul.

It is noteworthy that the first woman MLA and social worker of Raipur, Smt. Rajni Tai Upasane, recently passed away at the age of 92. In 1977, by winning the election from the Janata Party, she created history and got the honor of becoming the first woman MLA of Raipur. In that era, when the participation of women in politics was limited, winning the trust of the public at such a time was a symbol of her courage and struggle.
