In a grand display of social harmony, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai presided over a historic mass wedding ceremony where 6,412 couples tied the knot in a single day. Held at the Science College grounds in Raipur, the event under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana not only celebrated love across diverse traditions but also earned a spot in the Golden Book of World Records.

Chief Minister Sai, addressing the gathering, emphasized how the scheme has transformed the lives of underprivileged families. ‘Once a source of worry, daughters’ weddings are now occasions of dignity and assurance,’ he stated. He personally blessed 1,316 couples at the venue, while thousands more from across the state joined virtually. Each couple received Rs 35,000 in financial aid to kickstart their married life.

The ceremony showcased unity as couples from various religious backgrounds followed their customs side by side. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to social equity and sensitive governance, reaching the last mile of society.

On the same occasion, Sai launched the Malnutrition-Free Chhattisgarh campaign, starting as a pilot in eight districts of Surguja and Bastar divisions. ‘Building a healthy state requires collective effort from government and citizens,’ he noted, promising statewide expansion upon success.

Sai highlighted rapid progress under his administration, fulfilling key promises like the Mahtari Vandan Yojana aiding over 70 lakh women with monthly Rs 1,000. Other schemes mentioned include increased remuneration for tendu leaf collectors, relaunched Charan Paduka for footwear, and support for landless laborers.

Ministers and officials praised the event’s scale. Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Rajwade credited former CM Raman Singh for initiating the scheme, now scaled up by Sai. Skill Development Minister Guru Khushwant Saha called it a testament to inclusive leadership.

The presence of MLAs, corporate leaders, and department heads underscored the event’s significance, marking a new chapter in Chhattisgarh’s journey toward inclusive development.
