A devastating road accident in Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, has claimed the lives of four personnel from the elite Cobra Battalion. The tragedy unfolded on the bypass road near Khapri village when their car collided head-on with a stationary truck en route from Jagdalpur to Raipur.
The impact was so severe that the vehicle was reduced to wreckage, trapping the occupants inside. Local residents and passersby quickly alerted authorities. Police from Arjuni station rushed to the scene, initiating a frantic rescue operation. Firefighters used gas cutters to extricate the injured and deceased from the mangled car after hours of effort.
Two jawans succumbed at the spot, while two others breathed their last en route to the hospital. The sole survivor, critically injured, was first treated at Dhamtari District Hospital before being airlifted to Raipur for advanced care.
The deceased have been identified as Head Constable Mukesh Kumar, ASI Umendra Singh, Constable Rajkumar Gaur, and civilian driver Heera Lal Nagar from Padariya, Rewa. The injured jawan, Abhiman Rai, remains under treatment. All were traveling for duty-related purposes.
Eyewitnesses described a horrific scene: blood strewn across the road, the car’s front completely pulverized. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, preliminarily pointing to the parked truck as the primary cause.
