In a tragic incident that has shaken the quiet village of Dharadei in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district, a grieving couple took their own lives by hanging from a tree in their courtyard. The devastating event unfolded late on Mahashivratri Sunday, leaving the community in mourning. Police recovered the bodies and a poignant four-page suicide note that reveals the depth of their sorrow.
The couple, Krishna Patel, a mason by profession, and his wife, had been inconsolable since the death of their 21-year-old son Aditya in a road accident in 2024. Aditya was their world – son, friend, and protector all in one. The note describes him as a divine gift who filled their lives with joy, now irretrievably lost.
‘We are offering ourselves to Lord Shankar of our own will. We hold no one responsible,’ the note states, underscoring their decision as a spiritual surrender amid unbearable grief. Before ending their lives, they recorded a video pleading with their lawyer to ensure Aditya’s accident claim money reaches his elder brother.
Krishna detailed a fateful day when he sent Aditya to Dhaurabhatta village for temple-related work despite his son’s reluctance. ‘That was my biggest mistake. Since he left, we’ve been living dead,’ he wrote. Local residents recall the family’s unwavering love for Aditya, whose sudden departure shattered their existence.
Authorities have sent the bodies for postmortem and are investigating, though no foul play is suspected. This heartbreaking story highlights the profound impact of loss, urging society to support those battling silent despair. As the village prays for the departed souls, questions linger on preventing such tragedies.
