    In-principle approval granted to 14 new irrigation projects in the state

    Raipur, November 14, 2025// The 33rd meeting of the Chhattisgarh Irrigation Project Board, and the first of the current government’s tenure, was held today at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. The meeting involved extensive deliberations on increasing the state’s irrigation potential, improving groundwater levels, and strengthening drinking water supply in urban areas. In-principle approval was granted to 14 new projects for various regions.
    Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that increasing farmers’ income and agricultural production is the government’s top priority. With this objective, the irrigation network is continuously being expanded. He explained that increasing the irrigated area will not only benefit farmers but also improve groundwater levels and ensure better drinking water supply.
    Discussions were held on expanding irrigation facilities to Sarguja, Bastar, and plain areas. The Chief Minister obtained detailed information on the outline, cost, and benefits of all projects and stated that these projects will be expedited to ensure balanced development across the state.
    It is noteworthy that these projects will increase the irrigation capacity in the state by approximately 01 lakh hectares. These projects include the Deurgaon Barrage cum Lift Irrigation Project in Bastar district, the Matnar Barrage cum Lift Irrigation Project in Bastar district, the Mohamela Sirpur Barrage scheme on the Mahanadi in Arang development block of Raipur district, the water conservation construction from Ahiran to Gajari Nala (Kharang Ahiran Link Project) work, the Chhaparatoa Feeder Reservoir Project under Kota development block of Bilaspur district, the work of laying pipelines from Samoda Barrage to Kumhari Reservoir under the Kumhari Reservoir Water Capacity Enhancement (Jalavardhan) scheme, the Sahgaon Lift Irrigation Scheme of Dhamdha development block in Durg district, the construction of Lamti Feeder Reservoir and canals in Khairagarh-Chhuikhand-Gandai district, the water supply scheme through pipelines from Chauki Barrage to Mohara Anicut for drinking water at Mohara Anicut in Rajnandgaon district, the approval of the Bagiya Barrage cum Pressurized Lift Irrigation Scheme on Maini River in Jashpur district,
    The Parsahi Pressurized Lift Irrigation Project under the Augmentation of the Hasdeo Bango Project in Janjgir-Champa district, the Madwarani Barrage Construction cum Lift Irrigation Project in Korba district, the Sikasara Reservoir to Kodar Reservoir Link Canal (Pipeline) Scheme under the Pairi Project in Gariyaband district, and the construction of a feeder irrigation from Paraghat Diversion Scheme for the augmentation of the left bank canal of the Kharang Reservoir Scheme in Bilaspur district.
    Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao, Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, Finance Minister Shri O P Chaudhary, Chief Secretary Shri Vikas Sheel, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Energy Department Shri Rohit Yadav, Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Mukesh Kumar Bansal, Secretary of the Water Resources Department Shri Rajesh Sukumar Toppo, Chief Engineer Shri Indrajit Uike, and other senior officials of the Water Resources Department were present in the meeting.
