A double murder has been reported from Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami. The incident took place in the Raykera village, under the Ghargoda police station area. Two members of the same family were found dead. The victims were the mother-in-law and her son-in-law. Their bodies were discovered inside their home, while another female member of the family was found severely injured. The police have initiated an investigation at the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Sukmet Sidar, aged 80, and her son-in-law, Laxman Sidar, aged 60. Initial investigations suggest that they were killed by strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter was critically injured and was immediately taken to Tingni Hospital for medical care. Doctors have expressed concerns about her condition.

Upon receiving information, the Ghargoda police station and a forensic team promptly reached the location. Based on the evidence found at the scene, the police suspect foul play. Preliminary investigations suggest the murders occurred late Thursday night. The police have taken Laxman Sidar’s son and a neighbor into custody for questioning, considering them as potential suspects.

According to police sources, a land compensation dispute may be the primary motive for the double murder. Sukmet Sidar recently received compensation from NTPC for land acquisition. It is believed that the family was engaged in ongoing disagreements over the compensation amount. Police suspect that this dispute led to the murders.

It has been revealed that Laxman Sidar, the deceased, had been residing with his in-laws, at Sukmet Sidar’s residence, since his marriage. He is survived by one son and two daughters. The family had been experiencing long-standing tensions concerning financial matters and property. Local residents claim that the dispute intensified after the compensation amount was received.

Police officials have stated that the post-mortem report will provide further clarity on the cause of death. No formal arrests have been made at this time, but three family members are currently in custody and are being interrogated.
