Dhirendra Shastri, the prominent figure behind Bageshwar Dham, has directly addressed the controversy surrounding his recent travel to Chhattisgarh via a chartered aircraft. During a religious gathering in Bhilai, Shastri asserted his identity as an Indian citizen, questioning the basis for the scrutiny of his travel choices. He conveyed that being an Indian national means he should not be subjected to such specific questioning about his transportation methods.
Shastri articulated his perspective by contrasting his situation with that of individuals who allegedly engage in anti-national activities or misappropriate public funds, who seem to travel without hindrance. He highlighted his own contributions, including the promotion of Sanatan Dharma, support for cancer treatment centers, facilitating marriages for economically disadvantaged girls, and leading anti-drug campaigns. He questioned the selective nature of the criticism he is facing.
The spiritual leader, sharing the stage with state minister Guru Khushwant Saheb, suggested that the responsibility for his travel arrangements rested with the event organizers. He stated that he was choosing to limit further commentary to avoid inflaming the situation and assured that he held no personal animosity towards his detractors. Shastri also expressed thanks to those who have defended him and acknowledged the substantial role of media in shaping public opinion on the matter.
