The recent death of Sapna Kumari, a newly married woman, is under investigation in Araria district. Sapna’s body was found at her in-laws’ residence in Ward 13 of Bangama Panchayat, hanging from a fan. She had been married to Sonu Kumar for five months. Her family, residing in Radhanagar of Kasba police station area in Purnia district, has accused the in-laws of strangling her to death. The allegations include demands for a dowry, which included a large sum of money and a motorcycle. While the in-laws initially did not comment, the family believes that the murder was a direct result of the failure to meet these dowry demands. Police have detained Sapna’s husband, her mother-in-law, and other family members for questioning. According to Sadar SDPO Sushil Kumar, a murder FIR has been registered, and a post-mortem has been performed. Police are actively pursuing the case, promising stringent action against anyone found responsible.
