An unexpected explosion at an SECL coal mine in Chhattisgarh’s Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district has led to injuries for three mine workers, including two females. The incident took place at the Chirmiri open-cast mine on Monday afternoon during preparations for a planned blasting operation. According to officials, a team of eight workers was laying explosives when the blast occurred prematurely. The explosion resulted in flying rock fragments that hit the workers and equipment. The injured have been admitted to the SECL regional hospital in Kurasia and are reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries. Medical attention is being provided, and their discharge is expected soon. Authorities are investigating the cause, with a preliminary hypothesis pointing towards a technical defect. A formal inquiry is now in progress to determine the precise reasons behind the accidental detonation. The company is reviewing all safety procedures and equipment integrity. Mine operations have been temporarily halted to ensure a full safety assessment. The MCB district is located some 300 kilometers from the state capital, Raipur.
