In a major boost to the farming community, the Chhattisgarh government has announced the transfer of over ₹10,000 crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts this Saturday, just ahead of the Holi festival. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai hailed the move as a special gift to the ‘annadatas’ who form the backbone of India’s economy.

During a courtesy meeting at his residence office, farmers expressed their gratitude for the timely release of funds under the Krishi Unnati Yojana. This payment covers the difference for paddy procurement, procured at the highest rate in the country—₹3,100 per quintal for 21 quintals per acre. Sai emphasized that empowering farmers is key to realizing a developed India.

The CM reminisced about the introduction of Kisan Credit Cards during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s era, which freed farmers from the clutches of moneylenders charging exorbitant interest rates. Today, interest-free capital is available, coupled with expanding irrigation coverage under the Pradhan Mantri Sinchayi Yojana, ensuring water reaches every field.

This year, the state procured 141 lakh metric tons of paddy from 25.24 lakh farmers. The transfer begins from Bilaspur district on February 28, with celebrations planned across all development blocks like a festival. Sai assured continued commitment to farmers’ welfare, marking this as a festive precursor to Holi.

As paddy fields turn golden with prosperity, this initiative not only alleviates financial burdens but also strengthens rural economies, setting a precedent for farmer-friendly policies nationwide.
