A harrowing train accident unfolded in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district Tuesday afternoon, leaving at least eight people dead. A MEMU passenger train traveling from Gevra to Bilaspur collided with a goods train from behind near Jairamnagar station. The collision occurred at approximately 4 PM, causing immense devastation to the front coaches of the passenger train.
Disturbing visuals captured shortly after the incident show the extent of the damage, with mangled train cars and debris scattered across the tracks. Smoke emanates from the wreckage, and individuals can be seen exiting the rear coaches in distress. Multi-agency rescue teams, comprising railway personnel, local administration, and the National Disaster Response Force, are actively engaged in search and rescue operations. Emergency medical support is also present, attending to the injured on the scene.
As of the latest reports, eight fatalities have been confirmed. The recovery of a loco pilot trapped in the severely damaged engine is a priority. This unfortunate event has led to significant disruptions in rail services, with several trains rerouted or canceled. Technical teams are working diligently to repair the damaged overhead electrical lines and signaling systems. An official inquiry has been initiated to investigate the circumstances leading to the accident.
