Chhattisgarh Road Accident: Five Dead, Five Injured; DRI Cracks Down on Pangolin Scale Smuggling

Five individuals lost their lives and five more sustained injuries in a collision involving an SUV and a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district. The occupants of the SUV were West Bengal residents heading to Bilaspur to catch a train to Kolkata after a trip to Kanha National Park. The incident occurred near Akalgharia village. In a separate development, the DRI in Hyderabad successfully busted a smuggling ring dealing in Indian Pangolin scales. The operation in Hanamkonda, Telangana, resulted in the seizure of 6.53 kilograms of scales and the arrest of four suspects. This seizure highlights the ongoing threat to pangolins, the world’s most trafficked mammal, driven by the demand for their scales.
