In a major success for national security, Madvi Hidma, a key Maoist commander and a figure associated with numerous deadly attacks, has been eliminated by security forces. The operation culminated Tuesday near the border of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Hidma, who commanded the elite Battalion No. 1 of the CPI (Maoist) and held the position of secretary for the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee, was believed to be responsible for orchestrating the 2010 Dantewada massacre, the 2013 Darbha valley tragedy, and several other major ambushes across South Bastar. His intimate knowledge of the Sukma-Bijapur forest terrain made him a formidable adversary. Security agencies view his death as a critical turning point, expecting it to create a leadership vacuum and significantly weaken the Maoist movement’s operational capacity. This neutralization is part of a renewed push to combat insurgency, with authorities reinforcing their commitment to dismantling remaining Maoist networks and encouraging surrenders.
