Panic gripped courts in Ramnagar and Nainital on Monday morning after receiving chilling bomb threats via email. The menacing message, purportedly from the ‘All India Judges Association,’ claimed that 12 RDX bombs and IEDs had been planted in judges’ chambers across these facilities.
The email reached the Nainital District Judge and other courts in the district, demanding immediate evacuation of the premises. It also referenced demands to halt EWS reservations in Tamil Nadu, adding a bizarre political twist to the terror. Within minutes, police and local authorities sprang into action.
Heavy police deployment was ordered at courts in Ramnagar, Nainital, and Haldwani. The entire complexes were cleared of people, with public access strictly barred. Dog squads, bomb disposal units, and specialized teams combed through courtrooms, chambers, lawyers’ offices, and every nook of the premises.
No suspicious items were found even after hours of intensive searches that stretched into the evening. Court proceedings came to a complete halt, leaving lawyers, staff, and litigants stranded outside under tight security cordons.
Senior advocate Himanshu Agarwal emphasized that these measures were purely precautionary, with agencies treating the threat with utmost seriousness. Cyber experts are now tracing the email’s origin and sender’s identity.
Police officials confirmed the thorough checks yielded nothing suspicious but vowed to apprehend the perpetrator soon. A dedicated investigation team has been formed, and heightened security remains in place to reassure the public.
