New Delhi’s political circles are buzzing with optimism as BJP spokesperson RP Singh voiced confidence in forging even stronger bonds with Bangladesh’s incoming government. Speaking exclusively to IANS on February 15, Singh addressed the upcoming swearing-in ceremony set for February 17, where India will be represented by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, given Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s prior commitments abroad.
India has always championed positive and stable relations with its neighbors, Singh emphasized, highlighting the historically robust partnership with Bangladesh rooted in shared history and mutual cooperation. ‘We expect the new administration to build on this foundation, advancing bilateral ties and deepening collaboration across sectors,’ he stated.
Shifting gears to the high-stakes T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan, Singh dismissed political posturing surrounding the match. ‘Operation Sindoor remains active,’ he warned, signaling India’s readiness for any provocations with a firmer response than before. Yet, he urged keeping sports separate from politics. ‘Cricket is a game to be played in the true spirit of sportsmanship,’ Singh asserted.
On queries about players’ interactions, Singh respected individual choices. ‘Each athlete has personal feelings; there’s no official directive on handshakes. If an Indian player opts out due to personal reasons, that’s their call.’ He concluded on a triumphant note, predicting a decisive Indian victory in the encounter.
