New Delhi: In a sharp political showdown, BJP workers took to the streets outside the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, protesting against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s controversial remark about ‘counting dogs.’ The AAP supremo had recently claimed during a public rally that the BJP was more focused on counting stray dogs than addressing the city’s pressing issues like pollution and infrastructure woes.
Hundreds of BJP activists, led by senior party leaders, gathered with placards and slogans denouncing Kejriwal’s statement as an insult to Delhi’s residents. ‘Kejriwal is diverting attention from his government’s failures by making absurd claims,’ thundered BJP Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva, pointing to AAP’s unfulfilled promises on clean air, water supply, and road repairs.
The protest, which lasted over two hours, saw participants distributing pamphlets highlighting what they called AAP’s ‘governance paralysis.’ Police were deployed in strength to maintain order, but the demonstration remained peaceful. Eyewitnesses reported high spirits among the protesters, who chanted ‘Kejriwal Hatao, Delhi Bachao’ throughout.
This latest clash underscores the intensifying rivalry ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. While AAP defends Kejriwal’s remark as a metaphor for BJP’s misplaced priorities, the opposition accuses him of arrogance and incompetence. Political analysts say such street-level agitations could shape public perception in the coming months.
As the sun set over the capital, BJP leaders vowed to continue their campaign, demanding a public apology from Kejriwal. The episode highlights the cutthroat nature of Delhi’s politics, where even offhand comments can spark major confrontations.
