Ranchi, February 9: Tensions are escalating in Assam’s political arena as BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo launches a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of endangering national security due to alleged ties to Pakistan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has cited an SIT report to claim that Gogoi’s wife has visited Pakistan multiple times and reportedly worked for certain agencies there, receiving payments. Despite being an MP, Gogoi allegedly traveled to the neighboring country without informing diplomatic channels.

Shahdeo demanded clarity from Gogoi, questioning why the CM had to publicly raise these concerns. ‘Gogoi must explain his repeated trips to Pakistan without government notification. This Congress love for Pakistan poses a grave threat to India,’ he asserted.

The controversy unfolded amid broader discussions on national issues. Shahdeo also defended RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent statement advocating for three children per family, citing scientific studies that warn of population decline with fewer than two children per couple. ‘Two children maintain growth rates; one-child policies are personal but risky for the nation,’ he noted.

On the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Shahdeo reiterated BJP’s firm support, blaming Congress for introducing religion-specific laws due to appeasement politics. ‘Our Constitution framers envisioned UCC; we stand by it fully,’ he declared.

Assam’s public is demanding answers, with Shahdeo emphasizing that such lapses in protocol by elected representatives cannot be overlooked. The episode highlights deepening rifts between BJP and Congress ahead of key electoral battles.
