In a strategic organizational reshuffle ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has removed Keshav Vinayagam from his position as the state organizing secretary, appointing Prasobh Kumar in his place. This move comes as the party ramps up its election machinery in the southern state.
Almost immediately following the BJP’s decision, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological parent of the BJP, announced Vinayagam’s new role within its ranks. RSS spokesperson for South India, Shriram, clarified that such rotations are standard practice rooted in the organization’s long-standing traditions.
“The Sangh routinely reassigns its full-time pracharaks to different responsibilities for administrative efficiency,” Shriram explained. Vinayagam, previously instrumental in strengthening BJP’s grassroots network in Tamil Nadu, will now serve as the coordinator for Sadbhavana – promoting communal harmony – across the entire state.
Additionally, he joins the RSS state executive committee for North Tamil Nadu. His mandate includes fostering social integration among diverse communities, sustaining interfaith dialogue, and spearheading public outreach initiatives. In the current socio-political climate, this appointment underscores the emphasis on social cohesion.
The RSS was quick to dispel any notions of this being a demotion or politically motivated. “These internal adjustments have been part of our administrative process for decades, optimizing the deployment of experienced workers where their skills are most needed,” the statement emphasized.
Vinayagam’s track record as an adept organizer has been pivotal in expanding BJP’s footprint in Tamil Nadu over recent years. His shift to RSS signals a broader utilization of his expertise at the societal level, beyond direct party management, especially amid heightened focus on harmony.
On the other hand, Prasobh Kumar’s elevation is expected to inject fresh momentum into BJP’s campaign preparations. With assembly polls looming, this realignment within the Sangh Parivar reflects a deliberate balancing of roles to bolster both political outreach and social engagement in Tamil Nadu.
