New Delhi witnessed a sharp political exchange as BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal threw his weight behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent parliamentary remarks targeting the Gandhi family. Speaking exclusively to IANS, Khandelwal dismissed the family’s claim to the Gandhi surname as their ‘biggest misconception,’ accusing them of borrowing an identity from history.
Khandelwal minced no words, stating that adopting someone else’s surname and then posing as its rightful heir exemplifies Congress’s habit of distorting history. ‘What PM Modi said in Parliament is absolutely correct,’ he asserted, referring to Modi’s accusation that the family had ‘stolen’ Mahatma Gandhi’s surname.
The MP didn’t stop there. On Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s governance, Khandelwal urged introspection. ‘Reddy should first examine if he’s upholding the dignity and rules of administration,’ he said, criticizing the CM’s statements as reflective of poor political standards. He claimed public discontent in Telangana stems from the government’s failure to maintain political decorum.
Turning to Bollywood, Khandelwal addressed buzz around Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film ‘Ghuskhor Pandit.’ He advised restraint until full details emerge. ‘We need to know the story, the title’s rationale, and censor board approval. If it’s factual and cleared, no interference is warranted,’ he remarked.
Expressing grief over the Meghalaya coal mine tragedy, Khandelwal offered condolences to victims’ families and called for a thorough probe by the state government. He demanded strict punishment for the guilty and adequate compensation for the bereaved.
Finally, on AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi’s controversial remarks, Khandelwal accused him of chasing headlines. ‘Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has clarified the context of ‘Mia.’ Owaisi should focus on his constituency’s development instead of rabble-rousing,’ he concluded.
