In a surprising shake-up within the Bharatiya Janata Party’s West Bengal unit, senior leaders Dilip Ghosh, Sukanta Majumdar, and Suvendu Adhikari have been left out of the newly formed state committee. The decision, announced on Wednesday, has sparked speculation across political circles in the state.
Party insiders revealed that the restructuring aims to inject fresh energy into the organization ahead of crucial upcoming elections. BJP’s state leadership emphasized that this is part of a broader strategy to reward grassroots workers and emerging leaders who have shown exceptional dedication.
Dilip Ghosh, the fiery former state president known for his outspoken criticism of the Trinamool Congress, Sukanta Majumdar, the current state chief, and Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, were notably absent from the 20-member committee list. The party has clarified that their exclusion does not diminish their roles or importance within the party hierarchy.
‘Bengal BJP is evolving. We need to build a wider base and promote new faces who have been tirelessly working at the booth level,’ a senior BJP functionary told reporters. The new committee includes several young leaders and district presidents who played pivotal roles in recent organizational drives.
This move comes at a time when BJP is intensifying its efforts to challenge Mamata Banerjee’s ruling TMC in the 2026 Assembly polls. The party suffered setbacks in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, winning only 12 out of 42 seats, down from 18 in 2019.
Critics within the party have whispered concerns over internal factionalism, but official statements dismiss such notions. ‘This is a routine organizational refreshment. All our leaders remain integral to our Bengal journey,’ affirmed a party spokesperson.
As the dust settles, eyes are on how this new committee will steer BJP’s campaign machinery. Will it unify the ranks or deepen existing divides? Only time will tell, but one thing is clear: Bengal’s political battlefield is heating up.
