Ajmer, January 31: Bishop Remson Victor of the Church of North India’s Rajasthan Diocese expressed strong optimism on Saturday about the upcoming Union Budget 2026, particularly for minority communities. He commended the central government’s dedicated initiatives aimed at uplifting and empowering these groups.

Bishop Victor highlighted the pivotal role played by the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation in generating employment opportunities and fostering self-reliance among minorities. He noted that various welfare schemes have directly benefited Christian communities alongside other minorities, marking a significant stride in inclusive development.

The ‘Hamari Dhrohar’ scheme has been instrumental in preserving and promoting Christian cultural heritage, he said. Similarly, the Prime Minister’s Jan Vikas Programme has led to substantial improvements in schools, hostels, health centers, and community infrastructure, directly aiding vulnerable sections of society.

Empowering women through the ‘Nai Roshni’ scheme has equipped them with leadership skills and financial literacy, enabling greater participation in economic activities. Bishop Victor praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent and positive engagement with minority welfare.

Christian institutions, including schools, hospitals, and social organizations, are actively contributing to societal service with government support, he added. ‘All communities look to the central budget with hope, and minorities specifically desire attention to their needs and aspirations,’ Bishop Victor stated.

He expressed confidence that the forthcoming budget will prioritize minority welfare, introducing provisions that benefit all citizens and accelerate national growth. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the 2026 budget in Parliament on February 1 at 11 AM, marking her ninth consecutive presentation—a historic moment as it falls on a Sunday.

Bishop Victor also appreciated PM Modi’s visit to the Cathedral of Redemption in New Delhi during Christmas, viewing it as a symbol of respect across faiths. His interactions with bishops have fostered a message of trust and positivity in society.

With high expectations from the government, Bishop Victor is optimistic about concrete steps in the budget to safeguard minority interests and promote overall citizen welfare, paving the way for a stronger India.
