The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the Civil Services Examination 2025 results on Friday, March 6, sparking celebrations across the country. Among the 958 selected candidates, Bihar’s success stories stood out. However, joy turned to confusion with a brewing controversy over the 301st rank holder, Akanksha Singh.

Reports initially claimed that Akanksha Singh, granddaughter of the late Barmeshwar Singh alias Mukhiya, the controversial leader of Ranvir Sena, secured the 301st position. Social media buzzed with congratulations for the family. But soon, another Akanksha Singh from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, stepped forward, asserting that the rank belongs to her.

The Ghazipur candidate posted her interview admit card on Facebook, complete with a QR code that matches the roll number in the official UPSC results. Scanning it reveals details aligning perfectly with the rank list. In contrast, the document shared by Mukhiya’s granddaughter appears to be from the preliminary exam, with a mismatched roll number upon QR scan.

This clash has ignited debates online, questioning the authenticity of claims. Neither UPSC nor Barmeshwar Singh’s family has issued an official statement yet. Sources suggest UPSC might clarify on Monday.

The results include 317 general category candidates, 104 EWS, 306 OBC, 158 SC, and 71 ST candidates. As the nation awaits resolution, this episode underscores the intense scrutiny surrounding UPSC outcomes and prominent family legacies.

While top rankers grab headlines, such disputes remind us of the transparency challenges in India’s premier exam. Will UPSC’s clarification settle the score?
