In a heartbreaking incident on State Highway-17 near Sonpur village in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, three young boys lost their lives in a devastating road accident. The tragedy unfolded on Thursday evening when the trio, returning home on a single motorcycle after playing cricket, was struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle.

The impact was so severe that all three were thrown off the bike and sustained fatal injuries. Local villagers rushed to the scene, finding the victims in pools of blood, and quickly transported them to the nearby Primary Health Center. Doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Kumar, Ankit Sahni, and Vivek Sahniāall minors and close friends from the same village. Police from Biroul station arrived promptly, securing the site and sending the bodies for post-mortem at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). Families were informed, and grief has enveloped the community.
Pankaj’s uncle, Moti Sahni, recounted how the boys had stepped out for a casual outing. ‘They were just playing cricket and coming back when this hit them,’ he said, voice breaking. The entire village is in mourning, with homes filled with wails of sorrow.
Authorities are leaving no stone unturned. Biroul SDPO Prabhakar Tiwari confirmed that CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being scrutinized to identify the fleeing driver. ‘We assure the families that the culprit will be caught soon and face strict legal action,’ he stated. This accident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, especially on busy highways where reckless driving claims young lives.
