In a unique ruling in Gopalganj district, Bihar, Principal Magistrate Nilesh Bhardwaj of the Juvenile Justice Board has sentenced a minor involved in liquor smuggling to community service. The sentence involves the teenager performing traffic duty for 30 days with the aim of reforming his conduct. The case originated in the Jadopur police station area. On January 9, 2025, Jadopur police arrested the teenager and seized 81 liters of liquor. A case was filed against the juvenile and three others at the police station. During the court hearing, the board considered the arguments from both sides. The accused teenager and his father were present. The teenager confessed to his crime voluntarily and without any pressure. Following this, the board’s Principal Magistrate ordered the juvenile to serve with the traffic police. The teenager will work under the supervision of the traffic police in-charge for 30 days, and a letter will be sent to the Superintendent of Police for permission. After the 30-day period, a service report will be sent to the board. This approach aims to provide the teenager with an opportunity for rehabilitation and a chance to contribute positively to society, which is seen as beneficial for his future. During the hearing, the teenager requested forgiveness and a chance to improve, also expressing his desire to join the mainstream. In light of this, Principal Magistrate Nilesh Bhardwaj ordered community service for the accused teenager.
