The Supreme Court has again weighed in on the Bihar SIR, delivering significant remarks. During Monday’s proceedings, the court declared it could not provide a partial judgment on the matter, asserting that any final ruling would apply across the entire nation. The court acknowledged the Election Commission of India, a constitutional authority, is following the law and mandatory rules in Bihar. The court stated that if any irregularities are found in the Election Commission’s methods during any stage of the Bihar SIR, the entire process will be canceled.

This comes after an Election Commission meeting on September 10th, with officials suggesting a nationwide voter list revision campaign might occur in the coming months, given the upcoming assembly elections in five states next year.

The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for the Bihar SIR case for October 7th. The date was set after listening to arguments from both sides. It is anticipated that the Bihar election dates could be announced following the hearing.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court took action regarding a petition concerning the inclusion of Aadhaar cards as the 12th prescribed document in the Bihar SIR. The court has issued a notice on this matter following a petition filed on September 8th. During the September 8th hearing, the court made it clear that Aadhaar cards do not serve as proof of citizenship. They clarified the Election Commission could verify the authenticity of Aadhaar cards when presented by a voter to be included in the voter list.
