Bihar’s commitment to enhancing its infrastructure received a boost with a specialized training program in Patna. The focus was on improving the quality of bridge construction and upgrading the technical expertise of engineers. The Rural Works Department Minister Ashok Chaudhary was the chief guest at the event.

Minister Chaudhary emphasized the state’s commitment to connecting all rural areas with a better road network under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, ensuring a four-hour travel time to the capital, Patna. The program aims to enable Bihar to become self-reliant and progressive.

The training covered a range of topics, including bridge design, soil testing, and construction processes. Emphasis was placed on techniques such as deep foundations, essential for ensuring the stability and longevity of bridges, particularly in areas with challenging ground conditions or heavy traffic. The importance of load testing and stringent safety measures were also highlighted.

The state has already completed around 2,500 bridge construction projects, while 950 projects are in various stages of progress. The Chief Minister Rural Setu Yojana was restarted after a gap of 9 years. The department has also introduced a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure the highest quality standards in bridge construction.

Senior officials provided guidance to junior engineers, stressing the need for adherence to quality standards. The program also included plans for advanced training for senior engineers, aimed at further strengthening the efficiency and technical capabilities of the department.

The event saw active participation from engineers and technical staff, who had the opportunity to interact with technical experts. The Engineer-in-Chief of the Rural Works Department emphasized the importance of providing all necessary materials to the engineers and supervisors involved in bridge construction.
