A peculiar incident unfolded in Nawada, Bihar, where three friends ran away and reached Surat, Gujarat. Two of them subsequently married each other, one taking on the role of the ‘groom,’ the other the ‘bride,’ and the third friend assuming the role of the ‘brother-in-law.’ They began living together afterward. Meanwhile, their families reported them missing. The police launched an investigation, which led them to Surat. The girls were found and are currently being questioned.
The news caused shockwaves throughout the village. The incident occurred in the Akbarpur block area. It came to light on Tuesday when the Nemdarganj police and Surat police conducted a joint operation to recover the girls. On July 19, three underage friends, who attended the same school, left home under the guise of collecting their mark sheets. Two of the girls came from one village, and the third came from another. They had pre-arranged plans to live together.
After the girls disappeared, their families searched for two days with no success. On July 21, a missing person report was filed at the Nemdarganj police station. The police investigation revealed that the three girls were working in a textile mill in Patel Nagar, Surat. The most surprising element was that two of the girls had married each other, with one acting as the bride and the other as the groom. The third girl was residing with them as the brother-in-law.
Following a joint operation by the Surat and Nemdarganj police, the girls were brought back to Nawada. When the girls were brought to the police station, the sight of one girl wearing sindoor and the other as a husband surprised everyone. The third girl’s role as the brother-in-law has made this case a subject of great discussion. The event has triggered curiosity and debate not only in Nawada but across Bihar.
The in-charge of the Nemdarganj police station, Vinay Kumar, mentioned that this is an unusual case, and the police are investigating all aspects. The legal course of action will be decided after recording the girls’ statements.
