The soldier, who spoke to his mother that very morning advising her to stay warm amid biting cold, was among 10 personnel killed when their bulletproof vehicle plunged 200 feet into a gorge during an operation near Khanni Top.
Hare Ram, a resident of Nathmalpur village under Barhara police station, had joined the Bihar Regiment in Danapur in 2009 after completing his intermediate from Ara’s Maharaja College. His last leave was for his nephew’s wedding last November, where he celebrated joyfully before returning to duty on December 15. The news of his martyrdom spread grief across the district, with villagers and leaders paying tearful tributes.
His elder brother, Jay Prakash Kunwar, a schoolteacher, broke down recounting the final call. ‘He told Mom to protect herself from the cold and asked about the kids,’ Jay Prakash said, voice choking. The family, including wife Khushboo Devi from Bishnupura village, two young sons Priyanshu and Piyush, father Indrajeet, and twin sister Rinki, awaits his mortal remains in inconsolable mourning.
