In a stunning revelation from Bihar’s Purnia district, police have cracked the murder case of local businessman Suraj Bihari, arresting five suspects who used the victim’s own pistol to end his life. Purnia SP Swati Sahrawat unveiled the chilling details during a Saturday press conference, parading the accused before the media and piecing together the gruesome sequence of events.
The altercation that led to the killing stemmed from a heated dispute over an Instagram post. What began as a social media spat escalated into a violent brawl, during which the assailants snatched Suraj’s licensed pistol and shot him dead. ‘The weapon recovered is indeed the one owned by the deceased,’ SP Sahrawat confirmed, emphasizing the irony of the crime.
Post-murder, the killers scattered across India—fleeing to Delhi, Noida, Bhopal, Farakka, and Howrah—while plotting an escape to Nepal. Intense police operations nabbed three in Rupouli police station area and two more in Muzaffarpur. Two fugitives remain at large, with attachment warrants issued against their properties.
The case has gripped Purnia, especially after Suraj’s father, Jawahar Yadav, succumbed to shock from the tragedy just days later. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav and AIMIM’s Akhtarul Iman have raised the issue in the state assembly, demanding swift justice. SP Sahrawat assured speedy trials for all involved, including potential action against a social media creator under scrutiny.
As investigations deepen, Purnia residents demand accountability, highlighting rising concerns over social media-fueled violence and arms misuse in the region. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough, but the hunt for the remaining suspects continues unabated.
