In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested the Bihar Pradesh President of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in connection with the 2022 Fulwari Sharif criminal conspiracy case. The individual, identified as Mehboob Alam, also known as Mehboob Alam Nadvi, was apprehended in Kishanganj. He is a resident of the Hasan Ganj area in the Katihar district of Bihar, and his arrest marks the 19th in the case.
The investigation reveals that PFI members were engaged in unlawful and anti-national activities. Their objective was to foster religious discord and create an atmosphere of fear. The NIA’s investigation further revealed that Mehboob Alam was actively involved in the conspiracy, organizing recruitment, training, and meetings to propagate the PFI’s ideology. He also raised funds and distributed them to other accused individuals and PFI members. The NIA has stated that the investigation is ongoing.
The case involves activities detrimental to peace and harmony, aimed at disrupting public order and instigating discontent against India. The PFI’s members were promoting the PFI’s ideology of establishing Islamic rule in India, thereby attempting to instill fear among the public.
